A Body in Motion
When Newton said, “A body in motion remains in motion… if the body is at rest it remains at rest,” he might as well have been talking about me. Or the hordes of us who promise to blog “regularly” when we go off the entry-a-day routine, and of course, promptly forget.
Last week, I re-found my writing groove, and after a few celebratory jumps on the bed, I did what I do best: I became a pitching machine. Queries flew, crash-landed, and some even survived. Which basically means that I now have eight deadlines before the end of this month, and while I could, I’ll try not to use that as an excuse to not blog. In fact, I might just go on the daily routine again. But no promises.
I have also, you will be surprised to note, just discovered audiobooks. I didn’t honestly think that audiobooks could be as fun as actual books, because let’s face it, I like to read, not listen. But one of the many joys of being married is that when your husband says you must switch off the lights at 2 a.m. because he has to go to work the next day, you have to listen (and “buy lamps” is still uncrossed on your to-do list). So I’ve started with The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss and while I’m not sold on the book yet, I’m certainly sold on the idea of audiobooks. Where have I been all these years, hey?
As I was writing this, it started raining, so having completed most of my work for the day, I’m off to make a cup of tea and read a novel in the space in our house that we call “The Reading Area.” Every time I’ve pictured my own home, I’ve thought of a large space– comfy cushions on the floor, books within easy reach, a relaxing place to sit or lie down, preferably next to a window– that would be conducive to spending large portions of my day. When we moved in here, we were able to make that dream a reality. This isn’t our house (as in we rent, not own) and we’re looking to move again soon anyway, but this has quickly become my favorite spot in the home. We lie here and watch TV often. And that’s where I’m headed now.
