  • They say that, while he was alive Van Gogh never sold a painting. Who wants to be a successful, wealthy, highly praised corpse? I mean, who?

  • Fair enough. But at least he put aside self-doubt to create something that he wanted to, which I think is what he’s suggesting here. The success or lack of it, of those creations are a completely different matter, in my opinion.
