How To Get Your Editors to Dislike You

1. Name publications and editors on message boards and on your blog, especially if they’ve done something you don’t like. Out them!
2. Miss your deadlines. Fail to inform them that you’ll be missing your deadline. And when they contact you, laugh and say, “Hey, a day here, a day there, what does it matter in the grand scheme of things?”
3. Argue with them when they’ve rejected an idea, and try to convince them of its brilliance.
4. Start a bidding war. “Glad you like the piece, but magazine X is willing to pay double that. If you can match that, it’s all yours.”
5. Call them at 3 in the morning to ask, “Hey, sorry to call you this late, but I had an important question: do you or don’t you use the serial comma?”
