Things I Love About America

1. There are so many choices. It took me ten minutes to decide on a breakfast cereal.
2. If a guy smiles at me on the street and I smile back, he doesn’t automatically assume I want to sleep with him.
3. When people say they’ll be somewhere at 9, they’re actually there at 9.
4. No one asks, “Are you married? Why not?”
5. There are books. Oh man, there are so many books. Public libraries, bookstores (great discounts), school libraries (so many I lost count). I could read every minute for the next whole year and I wouldn’t run out of material. Did I mention there are many many books?

Point 2-5 can be said of Europe as well. 2 is what I loved most about being in the West. You could talk to a man, say hello or merely sit next to someone in a bus without constantly worrying about being poked, prodded or even having a conversation.
If the UK had its way, breakfast would be a bowl of soup and a slice of bread. Unless you’re at a hotel with a continental breakfast being served, a selection (for a reasonable price) is hard to find. Lucky you.
PS: We’re experimenting with chapatis and poha and omlettes, now that we are in India

What I wouldn’t give for mom’s gobi ka parantha right now! Though someone did take me to a fantastic Indian restaurant that had the best north Indian food I’ve had in a while. (http://flavors-india.com/)
I didn’t know that about English breakfast, by the way. The only English guy I know in Delhi moans so much about the lack of good bacon in India that I’m considering sending him bucketfuls from here.

if you get up to Seattle and start feeling a little homesick, drop me a line. I will take you to meet my mother and she will ask you why you’re not married. Ha, ha! As if they don’t ask that in America.
But seriously, drop me a line and I will get a babysitter and Holly and I wll take you out for some good lebenese food. Yum!

No one’s asked me yet. Not one person. So don’t scare me like that! Maybe I should just stay in Berkeley. I could really get used to this non-judgmental thing.
Thanks for the offer! I might actually take you up on it. Travel does seem likely soon enough.
