When I Was 13: The Person, the Blog, The Book

One of the first writers I discovered when I started dreaming of becoming a writer back in 2002, was Angela Giles Klocke. I never had a writing mentor, but if anyone came close, it was her. We didn’t communicate much back then, and there was no formal “helping”, but her website, her e-books and her life story were a great inspiration for me. I looked up to her (still do), read anything that had her byline, and still remember some of that work from her early days.

I’m not going to go into the long history of how women, especially in my own country, are treated inferior and choose to remain that way. Angela showed me, by example, what a person can do when faced with what can seem like unsurmountable life challenges.

Angela’s now written her story– of being a teen mom, facing domestic violence, and starting life from scratch– and is looking to build a platform for her work. I mention this, not because Angela’s a friend, but because she’s an amazing woman, a terrific writer, and someone whose story inspired me to reach out for my own dreams.

If you’d like to check out her story, it’s here:

You rock, dudette. I remember writing you fan mail. “Dear Angela, I’m new to writing and am a big fan of your work… ” :)

Oh, by the way, my camera did indeed start malfunctioning. I blame you.

  3. Angela Klocke Says:

So, perhaps then it is YOU who is responsible for my laptop malfunctioning? I should have known it was coming from someone eeeeeeevvvviiiiilllll! LOL!

  4. Mridu Khullar Says:

Oh totally. Has your printer blown up yet? I cursed that as well.

I’m alone, broke, and in AFRICA. Have a friggin’ heart! :P

  5. Angela Klocke Says:

You had me at ALONE and BROKE, but lost all my sympathies at AFRICA ;)

My printer is brand new. I’ll so beat you if you ruin it, too!

  6. Mridu Khullar Says:

    You mean, mean woman.

I’ll leave your printer alone if you de-curse my camera. Deal?

Can’t do anything about your laptop. You have the same horrible Dell thing that I do (even model and color!), and we’re probably just going to have to team up and curse the evilness of Dell together.
