Here are some of my favorite resources for finding markets, and even great tips on writing. (Please list more resources, if you know of any, in the comments.)

Free Resources

www.AbsoluteWrite.com
Editor MacAllister Stone publishes a free bi-weekly newsletter that lists paying markets divided into various sections. Among them, you’ll find generalized market listings, international publications, book publishers, and even contests. A premium version is available for a fee. Formerly owned by Jenna Glatzer.

www.WritersWeekly.com
Here you’ll find a weekly listing of paying markets, jobs from around the world and also a “Whispers and Warnings” section where users can post warnings about publications that break contracts.

www.WorldwideFreelance.com
As the name suggests, the Worldwide Freelance Writer publishes market listings from around the globe. The website has two newsletters– one a generalized market listings newsletter published weekly with many American markets, and another European edition, which lists markets from Europe only.

www.WritingforDollars.com
Twice a month, publisher Dan Case lists markets in three categories: High Paying, Medium Paying, and Low Paying. You can find archives of the newsletter on the website, or you can subscribe and get the listings in your Inbox.

www.FundsForWriters.com
Another weekly listing of freelance markets, jobs, contests, and book publishers. Owner C. Hope Clark specializes in grants, and lists many each week. They also have a “Small” version that lists low-paying markets and a Premium version, which requires a paid subscription.

www.Writing-World.com
The Writing World newsletter focuses mainly on tips and writing news (I have written for them several times and highly recommend that you check out their article archive). They also have a small section on writing markets and contests in which they publish news of upcoming anthologies, contests, and sometimes, magazine markets.

One Response

  1. All good resources. Might also consider adding Write From Home. They send out a monthly newsletter full of market listings.

I’d like some advice on spotting trends, and sources (mainly online) where we can do that.

Thanks again for the great info!
