What’s Your Writing and Revision Process?
|
Category: Writing

Mine goes a bit like this: I write the first draft. I leave it alone for five minutes. I touch it up. I close the file. I open it again and read through it. I vow not to look at it for at least a day. I can’t help myself. I edit. And then I edit/rewrite some more.
Eventually, when I’m sure I’m done with it (I never really am), I send it to my online critique group. After a few days have gone by, I’ll read the critiques line by line and make changes if necessary.
I’ll usually keep poking at it till it’s time to submit. Eventually… eventually… I do let go.

Hi Mridu,
I agree with Chryselle. I enjoyed your interview at Susan’s Urban Muse. I love both of your blogs!
Hmm… I pretty much write/rewrite the way you do minus the critique group.

Michele

Thanks you guys! I’ll post the link in a bit.
Michele, I have only this one blog. Is there a namesake I don’t know of?

Being completely honest here, I am so bad at editing. Mostly it has to do with my attention span. I spend whatever time it takes to write an article, then usually that’s it. Needless to say, as I am writing I take great care. I never ever have anyone else look at my articles either. No reason for that, I just don’t. I let go of my articles very easily, lol.

Oops! I guess I should have clarified! I meant to say: I love both your blog AND Susan’s blog. You know, like I love “both” your blogs… yours and hers… So sorry for the confusion! I sometimes think people can read my mind!

Ah, thanks for explaining Michele. I didn’t like the idea of another Mridu Khullar walking on the planet. As far as I know, I’m the only one! Narcissistic? Me?
Ap, I used to be a first-drafter too. Not any more. Now I toss and turn over misplaced commas. It really isn’t healthy.
