03 Nov 2007 Meme: 8 Random Facts
 |  Category: The Life of Me |  Tags: , | Leave a Comment

Another meme. Ruth tagged me for this one. I have to tell you eight random facts about myself. I’m not sure the world’s ready for all my talents yet, but I’ll give it a whirl.

1. In my first few years of college, I developed a fondness for Wicca. I didn’t want to practice it as much as I wanted to read and watch movies about it. I outgrew it pretty soon, but have retained my belief in the Rule of Three and my love for black nail paint.

2. I have no middle name. My brother has no middle name. My parents have middle names, all aunts and uncles have middle names. None of my cousins have middle names. Most of my friends don’t have middle names. In fact, I’m pretty certain there’s a whole generation of middle-class Indians who have no middle names.

3. I’m fascinated by the Chinese culture, especially that of the time during the early twentieth century.

4. My favorite sport is cricket. I don’t enjoy watching or reading about it, but I love giving a good whack of the bat. I have unfortunately, not done so in almost five years.

5. I’m brilliant at math. It was in fact, my favorite subject throughout school (loved trigonometry and algebra, didn’t care much for geometry). I have also taken up accounting and loved it. If there’s one thing I love as much as words, it’s numbers. I do however, completely suck at geography. For several years, I confused Gujarat and Goa because they both start with the letter “G.” (My school friends still make fun of me.)

6. My favorite word is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. But of course.

7. The first pen name I picked for myself (back in 2002) was unintentionally Jewish-Indian. There’s nothing remotely Jewish about me except for the fact that I like saying “Oy vey” every chance I get. I fielded some questions about my “Jewish upbringing,” got rid of the name, and thankfully, never published anything under it.

8. My current pen name (which I shall likely use for publishing fiction) came about earlier this year because of a series of events that sort of randomly fell together. It is the name of a female Indian character in a book, who someone described as having the “same spirit” as me. There’s a cute little story behind why I chose this name, but that’s a whole other blog entry.

I’m tagging:

1. April
2. Fredrik
3. Simran
4. Nita
5. Tim
6. Teige
7. Frank
8. Akash
